Environment

The Environmental Sustainability Group aims to provide opportunities to network, share ideas, develop and support programs that can contribute to a society which is consciously working towards an environmentally sustainable world. It includes professionals who work in the field of environmental sustainability.

The main themes identified for action are:

  • BK operations – development of an environmental policy and guidelines for ensuring environmental management at BK venues e.g. green purchasing, energy and water conservation, recycling.
  • Service programs – supporting those working in the environmental sustainability field, holding conference presentations such as Climate Change and Spirituality and Spirit of Environment.
  • Education – providing information on ecological footprints and vegetarianism. At the moment, for example, specific work is being carried out at the BK Centre for Spiritual Learning in Leura, including an environmental action plan and a forest nature trail.

Spirit of Environment weekend programs have been the inspiration for the development of the Friends Group at the BK Centre for Spiritual Learning on the Peninsula in Victoria. This group meets monthly to work on bushland regeneration projects.
