The Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University became affiliated to the United Nations Department of Public Information in 1980 and has had consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council since 1983 and with UNICEF since 1988. As a non-governmental organization, it has coordinated and participated in numerous UN-related activities and has received seven UN peace Messenger Awards. The University’s primary focus has been to bring a moral and spiritual approach to UN issues and to help generate the will-power to translate ideas into action, principles into practice and rhetoric into reality. Its activities have supported UN programmes on human rights, the environment, development, youth, women, human settlements, peace, education, culture, science, health, substance abuse, disarmament, child welfare and other humanitarian issues.
