Spirituality and Men (SAM)
Centred in the UK, but with similar activities happening in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, the Netherlands and the USA, Spirituality and Men aims to explore the spirit of man through informative dialogue, honest interaction and the silence of meditation.
Just as a young sapling knows that its task is to reach for the sky, young people need not settle for less. Offering young people an education for life that encourages spiritual principles and moral values, helps build and strengthen the capacity of youth to participate as key actors now and in the future.
Prison and Probation
In the UK the Brahma Kumaris has been running meditation and life skills courses for prisoners since the early 1980’s. The Brahma Kumaris also convenes a joint working group of offender management personnel and voluntary sector organisations that arrange residential and one day seminars and workshops for staff.
Drugs and Alcohol Abuse Recovery
The Lighthouse Group, members of the Brahma Kumaris who are professionals in the field of drugs and alcohol recovery, was founded in September 2004.
It organises a regular series of personal development programmes, workshops and seminars, offered to individuals going through the recovery process at the different stages (one to three) as well as for professionals working with them.
Since 1998 over 150 Social Work managers and 500 Social Work staff from the public, private and voluntary sectors, have attended retreats at the Global Retreat Centre, near Oxford.
The Social Workers’ retreats give participants an opportunity to reflect upon their inner values and learn about and share spiritual skills, techniques and insights. This enables them to sustain their inner resources and empower them to work with some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our society.
